BALLETX
Presented by Temecula Presents

BalletX produces original choreography that expands the vocabulary of classical dance with the ambitious goal to redefine ballet and bring it into the new century. This Philadelphia dance company is firmly rooted in rigorous, classical ballet training and technique, and brings a contemporary sensibility to the art form, infusing its work with a new vision of athleticism, emotion and intimacy. BalletX reflects the daring vision of two gifted dancers and choreographers, Matthew Neenan and Christine Cox. As longtime dancers with the Pennsylvania Ballet, Matt and Christine were looking for new ways to express their vision of dance and to challenge ballet’s classical traditions. The result is BalletX.

“…clever and humorous choreography, dramatic lighting and gorgeous bodies hit all the right notes…”

TRIBUTE TO HARRY JAMES
Presented by Temecula Presents

All Star Big Band, Jeff Stover, Conductor
Guest Vocalist Cassie Miller and Doc Jack Poster (as Harry James)

Harry James was one of the most outstanding instrumentalists of the swing era, employing a bravura playing style that made his trumpet work instantly identifiable. The flawless, technically outstanding trumpeter played for the Benny Goodman Band before forming his own band in 1939 with gifted but little known vocalist, Frank Sinatra. He was one of the most popular bandleaders of the first-half of the 1940s, and he continued to lead his band until just before his death, 40 years later.

This concert takes us back to the days when Harry James was on top. Fantastic singer, Cassie Miller, and Doc Jack Poster (as Harry James) will wow you with their tributes to this Big Band era. Trumpeter Doc Jack Poster was a former lead trumpet with the Harry James Orchestra (1969-1971). A multi-media show features images, videos, and sounds in a music concert featuring all of Harry’s history and hits, which remain the most popular music of the era.

JOE HENRY
Presented by Temecula Presents

Like his mentor, T-Bone Burnett, Joe Henry has the uncanny ability to bring out the best in everyone he works with, having proven that by producing late-career masterpieces for the likes of Solomon Burke, Bettye LaVette, and most recently, Ramblin' Jack Elliott. Yet, this reputation has not come at the expense of his own career as a singer-songwriter, which over the past two decades has seen him undergo a transformation from country-rock troubadour to visionary audio-poet specializing in arcane Americana.

Henry's musical style spans several genres, including alternative country, rock, jazz and folk. A two-time Grammy-winning producer, Henry is married to Melanie Ciccone, sister of Madonna, since 1987. Henry's wife talked him into letting her send Madonna a demo of his song "Stop", which was reworked and recorded as "Don’t Tell Me” (from Madonna's album Music). Henry's own tango-tinged version of the song appeared on Scar and was featured in an episode of "The Sopranos".

"...in the romantic whimsy of the parlor crooner, in the electric mayhem of the blues, in the controlled chaos of jazz, in the strange and wonderful poetry of folk music."
