PHANTOM

Presented by Fine Arts Network Theatre Co.

When Maury Yeston conceived Phantom it seemed the seeds of inspiration were in the air at the same time Andrew Lloyd Webber was conceiving his production of Phantom of the Opera...both shows are based on Gaston Leroux's novel of the same title.

Though Yeston's Phantom never went to Broadway, it has had more than 1000 productions, and it's sweeping melodies and charming lyrics are often favored over the better known ALW version.

Phantom tells the tale of the disfigured Phantom, Eric, a musical and creative genius who is protected in the underground vaults of the Opera House by his father, Carriere. Abandoned by his Diva mother, Belladonna, because of his disfiguration, he seeks beauty, which he discovers in the voice of young ingénue, Christine Daae.

Christine has been discovered by the Viscomte Chandon and seeks a position at the Opera House, only to be undermined by Carlotta. The Phantom enraged by Carlotta's viciousness seeks to upstage Carlotta. The Phantom is discovered, and Christine and his father stand moments away from Eric being captured as the supreme sacrifice is made.
