VENUE: Old Town Temecula Community Theater
Darkness and Light: A Human Conversation with 11 Wounded Veterans
Gary Sinise Foundation, together with co-sponsor, City of Temecula, is pleased to present the West Coast premiere of the documentary film, Darkness and Light, by Thi Linh Wernau. The film includes Temecula's own, Cpl. Juan Dominguez, USMC (Ret.), who will co-host the event, along with the filmmaker. In the film, Wernau interviews eleven wounded veterans, largely post-9/11 war veterans and Marines, through the lens of her photography series, “You. Are. Beautiful.” – a project celebrating the human spirit and beauty in our wounded veterans. Themes around darkness and light emerge in these candid, unscripted and conversational interviews, and ultimately, these themes will tie back to one of the project’s main sources of inspiration: love. The audience will learn more about these wounded veterans and get to know them simply as human beings. The veterans share messages that may help and inspire other injured veterans. By the film’s end, anyone, military or non-military, may discover a new place of understanding of how to find light within the depths of darkness.
This evening includes two ticketed events: a film presentation and VIP cocktail reception. The film presentation will be followed by a special performance by Juan Dominguez and his band, Oli Brooklyn. Following the screening, you are invited to also attend a cocktail reception to meet some of the cast and enjoy food, drink and music. Cocktail attire is encouraged but not required.
