Originating from the vibrant city of San Diego, California, Todd Hunter has been captivating audiences worldwide for more than thirty years. Raised in a household steeped in music, Todd's journey into the realm of jazz piano began in his formative years. As he ventured through college at San Diego State University, the allure of New York City's jazz scene beckoned, and Todd embarked on a transformative journey into its heart.
Immersing himself in the pulsating energy of New York, Todd had the privilege of collaborating and learning from illustrious figures such as Joe Henderson, Tommy Flanagan, and Mel Lewis, among other luminaries. Eventually returning to Southern California, Todd continued his musical odyssey, embracing diverse sonic landscapes along the coastal regions and beyond.
In addition to his solo ventures, Todd Hunter is a seasoned international tour companion to the legendary Dionne Warwick, having shared stages with iconic voices like Natalie Cole and Whitney Houston.
A fixture at The Merc, where he has graced the Jazz series with various ensembles, Todd now embarks on a new musical venture with Todd Hunter and The Brazilians, infusing the rich traditions of Brazilian jazz with his signature style.
Joining forces with The Brazilians, Todd Hunter brings together an ensemble of remarkable talent: Tatá Batera, hailing from Brasília, Brazil, infuses the rhythms of his homeland; Leo Nobre, a versatile drummer from the streets of Rio de Janeiro, renowned in Los Angeles for his masterful bass playing; and Bruno Cunha, a youthful virtuoso from São Paulo, Brazil, whose prowess extends across guitar, bass, and vocals, fueled by an impassioned love for music. Together, they weave a tapestry of sound that transports audiences to the sultry streets of Brazil and beyond.
